In 1921, the American Committee on Conditions in Ireland organised hearings in Washington D.C. to record testimony about events in Ireland during the War of Independence. Albert Freeman Coyle compiled and annotated the evidence given and it was published over 1,100 pages in 1922. The accounts heard in Washington included eye witness testimony from all over Ireland giving first hand accounts of the actions of the RIC and military.
It is reprinted here over three volumes with an introduction in Volume 1 along with the evidence given at the first two hearings. Volume 2 contains the evidence given in the third and fourth hearings while Volume 3 contains the evidence given in the fifth and sixth hearings plus an index to all three volumes.
